As President Goodluck Jonathan covers the length of the country in continuation of his re-election rallies, Akure, the capital of Ondo State, his next campaign spot tomorrow, is already agog, even as artisans in the state have promised to demonstrate their support for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate by trooping to the rally en masse. As part of their own preparations for the president’s campaign, artisans in the state, according to Supo Adediran, the Secretary of the Ondo branch of the state, vulcanisers association, are storming the rally en masse in a uniform sown specially for that purpose by the group. He said preparations were in top gear by other groups within the artisans in the state to participate fully in the rally. At the local government level, it was also gathered that various interest groups are attending the event which the state government said would be a mother of all rallies, in colourful attires. It was also gathered that market women in the state had informed the authorities of their intention to shut the markets during the period of the rally, in honour of the visiting president and to also enable them participate in the rally and give the presidential candidate their support. The preparations was triggered by a statement at the weekend by the state’s Commissioner for Information, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, announcing tomorrow as the re-scheduled date for the President Jonathan campaign rally in the state. Akinmade said the rally of the PDP candidate in the February 14 presidential election would be the mother of all rallies because the state is President Jonathan’s territory and that of the South-west Coordinator of the Goodluck Jonathan national campaign committee, Governor Olusegun Mimiko. The rally, he said, is expected to attract leaders of the party as well as its members and supporters in the South-west zone, where President Jonathan will articulate his programmes for the country and also highlight the achievements so far recorded by his government since assuming power. President Jonathan’s campaign in Ondo was earlier scheduled to hold penultimate Wednesday but had to be rescheduled as it coincided with the peace accord signing event by all presidential candidates of parties participating in the forthcoming elections. The occasion which was chaired by the former Commonwealth Secretary General, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, where nine other presidential candidates of other registered parties appended their signatures to a five-point peace accord, also had the South-west Co-coordinator of the President Jonathan Campaign, Mimiko, in attendance.
