As a pastor, Im grateful for the opportunities and invitations I was blessed with to marry people. Such an honor! Im also grateful for the countless hours of counseling whether oriented around relationships, temporal advice, spiritual guidance, etc. The miracle of serving others is that although they felt like they came to me for help and inspiration...it seemed like it was I who really walked away from these interactions having learned from them and having been taught by the Lord as we always invited Him into our discussions. Here are a few thoughts I wanted to share as they are on my heart tonight for some reason to share on FB: To all my female friends in college trying to find Mr Wonderful...or to those who found Mr Wonderful years ago but things dont seem quite as wonderful anymore... Worry less about what he has and more about why he gives The true measure of a man is how he treats others who can do him absolutely no good. See how he treats his inferiors, not his equals. Notice how he makes others feel about themselves...this will say a lot about him!! And finally....relationships are never a 50/50 arrangement. It is not about each side doing their part and meeting in the middle. This never works. It is not reality. We all have good days and bad days. This mindset will also tempt you to pit yourselves against each other...always trying to measure who did what for who last. As a very basic example...I got you a drink last night in bed and now I am thirsty so its your turn to get me a glass downstairs and bring it to me This mindset is a what have you done for me lately. Be looking for someone who would want to get you a glass every night and bring it to you...expecting nothing in return. For relationships to work it must be a 100/100 thing not a 50/50 thing. Both parties must be willing and wanting to serve the other 100% of the time. Its not a tit for tat thing. Its a Id do whatever it takes thing So pay attention and be leery of this what have you done for me lately type of person and try find someone who would give anything and do everything to bring you happiness. Then in return, strive to have the same intention in your heart as there is a good chance he is looking for someone just like that in a woman.
