As christains and catholic youth : “Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.”-1 Timothy 4:12. We live in a time when youthfulness has become godlessness and carelessness. It seems our society is beginning to accept certain abnormalities as being right and acceptable. Even the Christian teenagers are suddenly being carried away by the style of the world. If the spirit of God lives in us, there are things that shouldn’t be mentioned among us. It is sad that some parents even see these things and ignore them because they feel it is in vogue. But the truth remains that we shouldn’t go after every style the world brings. The Spirit of God is in us to help us discern and know what is right and acceptable to God. Let us start with this very style that has eaten so deep into our teenagers-sagging. I learnt that sagging used to be a style for prisoners in the USA due to their prison uniform. Have you even taken out time to think of the people from who you learn this sagging style? How responsible are those hip-hop artistes you imitate? You can never see any serious minded person sag. As a Christian youth, you should have better role models in the likes of Obama, Hillary Clinton, Condolezza Rice, Nelson Mandela, Mother Theresa, and Mitchell Obama. Do you know who you are? I want you to take a moment to read 1 Peter 2:9-10. If you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood…, what manner of person are you supposed to be? Let us look at the issue of royalty; we don’t really have so much regard for royalty here in Nigeria, but I want you to take a look at the British royal family. When you understand who you are in Christ and you remember that your own royalty is not of this world, but in the heavenly places, you will begin to carry yourself the way you should. Did you see the recent wedding of Prince Williams and Kate? Do you look at Queen Elizabeth and her children? Have you ever seen Prince Williams or Harry sag? Have you ever seen the princesses expose their boobs and tummy? Have you ever seen them dance crazily in night clubs? They are careful not to bring reproach to the royal family. This is a perfect picture of your place in Christ. You are His representative on earth and you own royalty is everlasting. You must begin to live for the glory of His name. You should never be seen talking like your friends who don’t know God. You shouldn’t sing the kind of songs they sing. You shouldn’t eat everything they eat or drink. You should never dress the way they dress because you are bigger and better than them. Always have it in mind that you are God’s ambassador here on earth. You should strive to pacify the heart of Jesus that is continually bleeding because of the way we live. Night clubs is not for children of God and anyone who enjoys that is stil l far from heaven. Majority of our circular songs are not for us as children of God. There are movies and books you should never think of watching or reading. Youthfulness is usefulness; don’t waste it. FOR GOD AND FOR YOUTH!!
