As most of you are aware, I am relatively new on Facebook and an technologically limited. This means that most of my posts are in prose form. Last evening, in my chaplaincy duties with the Franklin County Sheriffs Office, I had to notify the parents of an 18 year old young man that he was killed in an auto accident. Obviously, it was a difficult and sad situation. As I was driving home, I was doing some doing some reflecting. The first thing that came to mind was sadness. Then I began to think that what we celebrate on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day is the reality that God enters into humanity so that we who are humanity can come to appreciate that we who are human can enter into life in the presence of the Divine forever. It really is impossible for us to ever really appreciate the enormity that is the Gift of the Christ Child. Yet this gift comes to us in such a humble way and we are free to accept the Gift. I pray that as all of us gather to pray (maybe even in a church), exchange greetings, share gifts and sit at Table together, that none of us take ourselves, one another and the gift of earthly and eternal life for granted. As we look at the world around we can see that no matter who we are, no matter what we believe, no matter from where we come; no matter what we look like, no matter how we feel, we still have a lot to do to make the human experience better for everyone. One way we can do that is by nor living as if we or others are indestructible and that there are realities greater than ourselves. Christmas is obviously a Christian holiday but it is not necessary to be a Christian or even a believer to appreciate this. Blessed Christmas to ALL. Father Leo Connolly
