As most of you know, my father was Lt. at UW where he served our community for over 25 years. As I was growing up, I spent a LOT of time hanging out at the PD. Either after school as a kid for a couple hours here and there or dropping in between college classes. My dad was a good hearted honest man who often went above and beyond the call of duty, taking time to comfort those who needed comforting, encouraging those who needed encouragement & arresting & issuing citations to those who deserved it. He was commended for his efforts in saving the life of a suicidal UW student & was very careful before ever pulling the trigger. He was a hero to not only me and my brothers, but to many other people as well. When I see posts about police brutality and the vulgarity thrown against police, Im reminded of the several officers I grew up to know & love. Am I offended by the comments? No. Because everyone is entitled to their opinion. However, the social decline this nation is on is reflected in every aspect of our lives. From customer service at restaurants, our educational institutions, families, rampant drug use & overall inhumanity. Are cops who they used to be? No. But neither is our society. The only way anything is ever going to change, is if we start changing things inside our own homes & hope it trickles out.
