As pantheists, we neednt cram ourselves into the smallish compartments of belief or skepticism. There is vast space in between them, and this space is our intellectual heritage and our base of operations. We are neither believers nor skeptics – we are observers, co-creators with Source. Ideas are products of consciousness; they are as much a part of Reality as people and trees and planets and stardust. Selective attention and imagination are the tools that we use to shape Reality into the ideas that become our subjective experience. There is further refinement that determines what ideas are communicable and useful and therefore worth sharing (ie. scientific method, intuition, contemplation etc.) but energy spent believing or disbelieving an aspect of Reality is energy wasted. Heres an example of an idea that seems to have lived and died: Zeus once held a great deal of sway over a significant population as part of the explanation for the natural world. Though likely unheard of in Japan and North America, for instance, the idea of Zeus was very real to the Greeks and those under their influence, so it was a product of a phenomenon you could call locally selective collective attention, aka mythos, and a large degree of imagination. Eventually, Zeus and the Ancient Greek mythos were displaced by ideas that were less imaginative and more broadly applicable as products of selective attention. In our time, Zeus is little more than an historical relic, a marker that shows how far we have progressed in our observations, similar to a schematic for one of the airplanes that preceded the Wright brothers successful model. In this way, the idea of Zeus persists, or you wouldve had no idea what I was talking about. So essentially, Zeus was believed to have existed and done some fairly important stuff, then died to the observable world, yet lives indefinitely in the form of legend as a mythic being. Can anything more be said about any historical figure? Is the idea of J. Pierre Reville more real just because the All appears to be speaking through me right now? Does Zeus still speak to us just as loudly as I might by representing a concept that is still relevant to us? The answers to these questions will vary, perhaps widely, but they themselves will also be ideas. Slices of the glorious Pie that keeps giving of itself and regenerating itself. To believe or disbelieve any portion of it is to make Reality smaller than it is. And you know what happens next: Giordano Bruno is gonna have words with you.
