As promised, Ill attempt to officiate the debate between the civilian authorities (police, mostly) and the protesters of police abuse. Ill start with the authorities: no sane and intelligent person believes that ALL cops are corrupt and psychopathic. HOWEVER, remember the old saying, one bad apple spoils the whole bunch....Too many people who work for the civilian authorities are psychopaths with guns and badges. Civilian authorities need to weed out those bad apples and, in addition, be retrained about the appropriate use of force. The Brown and Garner cases are perfect examples. The Garner case was an excessive use of force (the chokehold). In cases like that, where the suspect cant really run away due to various factors and becomes uncooperative, the correct thing for the police to say and do is, Sir, dont resist. Youre under arrest...if you continue to resist, well have to take measures to subdue you. Also in this case, a taser should have been used, not a chokehold. Authorities need to abandon the defining characteristics of Fascism known as disdain for the importance of human rights, identification of enemies/scapegoats as a unifying cause and the worst one regarding situations like this, obsession with crime and punishment. In the Brown case, use of force was necessary, but Officer Wilsons execution of Brown was a grossly excessive use of force. While Brown was close to Wilson, why didnt the officer use his taser to subdue him? And, how in the hell did Wilson allow Brown to reach into the police vehicle to attempt to get his gun, as the gun was on his right hip?!? That shows gross incompetence by Wilson. Thats it for the authorities. Lets move to the protesters. Just like the authorities, there are bad apples or rabble rousers who use protests to cause trouble for no other reason than to cause trouble. Like the authorities, the bad apples need to be weeded out so that peaceful protests can be held. No sane or intelligent person believes that all protesters are criminals or rabble rousers, but, there are too many within the ranks. Also remember that not every confrontation between criminals and the police results in inappropriate and/or excessive use of force. The kid in Berkeley, Missouri who pulled a gun on a police officer last week gave the police officer no choice but to defend himself with his gun. And, even worse are the revenge killings in NYC. In no way were those killings justified. Unfortunately, the man who killed those two cops turned his gun on himself, denying society the opportunity to bring him to justice. Thats what a lot of psychopaths do...when theyve lost the game, taking their own lives is the only way to win because it denies society the chance to bring him to justice. It is not false equivalency to say that there are bad apples on both sides. But, we dont hear enough about the good eggs on both sides, just the bad apples. So, while both sides work to get rid of the bad apples within their midsts, lets concentrate on the good points/people more often. Yes, attention needs to be paid to the bad actors on both sides, but not too much attention. FFS, people...its almost the year 2015....why do things seem like were in 1964 again? Has society regressed so much into apathy that these things have come full circle? Yes, in a country with more than 315 million residents, not everyone is going to get along. But, that doesnt mean we throw up our hands and let bad things happen. Things like bigotry and corruption (which happen to be two of the 10 GOP Tenets) need to end or happen so infrequently that theyre exceptions to the rule, not the rule itself.
