As requested by Mr Matt Parker The Afternoon was bright and warm. The Warriors took to the field in their unaccustomed virgin attire, and the whiteness showed. Overcome in the first Ten minutes by Vatican Cities sprightliness they found it difficult to settle. Not being able to shout come on black was confusing for both players and crowd alike. Deciding to field an unfamiliar 3-5-2 formation to look to boost their goal difference, Darren Wright held the defence like a fortress on the Maginot line. Unchanged in the First 25 minutes, chances came abloom from strike force duet Alan Karamba and Sam Li but to no avail, chances for winger Melly Gee and Josh Shelley also fell short of net flapping glory. Marty missed out after running his lungs out up and down the right wing creating chances so good you would find them at the TAB. Some of the South Bank crowd were reaching for their glyceryl trinitrate sprays after Parker just went wide with a slapping header off a Gee corner in the 33rd minute. On the stroke of half time, Caught on the break while pressing Vaticans inner sanctums, City’s sole strike broke from a long ball clearance from their central defender, short stepped the flat 3 and made it count for Vatican. 0-1. The whistle went for Half time. Whatever was said in the Break, changes were made, regular keeper Tapi Himiona moved from his first half stint on the right wing to Goal keeper, and Matt Walters tried his Hamstring out in Mid Field, and Calming playmaker Kelly came back into the tight three in the centre. The Warriors now had the Sun and wind in their favour. Spurred on by the rockets up their jacksies, The Warriors pressed forward and it wasn’t long before Melly Gee Equalised with a rocket from the left to the top right hand corner. Level. The Crowd on the South Bank went wild and the Warriors smelt blood. 3 minutes later Josh Shelley grabbed the ball 15 yards out took two steps and shot it into the left hand corner. 2-1. A series of substitutions followed, Walters left to keep his Hamstring tight, Parker returned as did Kelly, Brandon and Ronin. Jack moved to his preferred left back position, and Wright still in complete controlled requested a lock down. The formations shifted to 4-5-1. Tiako, and Lee firming up the defensive role. Shelley got his second dead on the 74 minute, on the run after a mid field battle Parker supplied Shelley who passed back to Matt, back to Shelley who let fly again, Goooall. 3-1. On a counter Vatican’s striker took the ball and ran towards Haimiona. Like a rutting Lion he approached the Gazelle striker of City and devoured him at the edge of the 18 yards. The crowd screamed with pride like frenzy. A Somme like effort of heroism from Nga toa’s long standing number #1 Vacticans Heads dropped, and the Warriors moved the ball around like they had been studying trigonometry. Ooohs and arrghhs were heard from the south bank. Warriors dominated in the last 10 minutes. Ronin “the Irish Stallion” back on for Walters took the ball on the run at 25 yards outside Vaticans 18 yard box calmed himself and let loose with a controlled strike, time slowed as the ball swirled to the top left hand corner, and the Irish Stallion raised his hand in calm acknowledgement. Children cried on the south Bank 4-1. 10 minutes later the whistle was blown and the Warriors continued the streak in the 2014 season. 2 games to go.
