As some of you know, I was in a terrible auto accident a few years - TopicsExpress

As some of you know, I was in a terrible auto accident a few years ago leaving many broken bones, punctured lung, casts, only one hand to use during the long recovery, hip replacement, blah blah. (yes, in a nursing home which is a collection of many stories, revelations and lessons....one of which was being taught by a nurse who noticed I could hold both legs up in the air, with casts on, when bedding was being changed: how to walk on my butt, like an amputee, rocking my torso back and forth, both legs held straight out and moving to the edge of the bed, onto the commode and/or wheelchair. It was determination to not be totally helpless.) Anyhow, I was very, very lucky to survive the accident and to get a fantastic orthopedic surgeon on duty in the er: Dr Walter LeClair. UMass Medical Worcester. I had shattered bones in my right ankle, foot hanging on by tendons etc. He patiently picked out pieces of bone, cleaned them and put them back like a puzzle. Pins and screws held everything in place. Eventually, they moved about, so a few days ago he removed them. After years of physical therapy working on walking properly and trying to eliminate a limp, which I was determined to accomplish, I am walking better than ever!! Dr LeClair worked his magic again. I am so very grateful. It has been a long, often discouraging process. Anything Is Possible!!! I was told I would never hike again. (this is a person who trekked in Nepal twice, the first time alone with one hired guide and the second with my son up to 16000 ft in my mid 50s) I will be training on our beloved Mt Watatic as soon as the stitches are out. See you there!
