As two of Asia’s dominant nations, China and India are poised to play a pivotal role in the region and the world at large. Both are growing economies, have large domestic markets, and agriculture is a vital industry in both nations. Both face similar challenges and have similar expectations from the nations of the world when it comes to policies, markets, and business. There is tremendous potential for closer ties and enhanced synergies across several key segments such as IT and manufacturing. In recent years however, border disputes seem to have taken centre stage, unfortunately perpetuated by the Red Dragon more often than not. This is putting all positive engagements on a back burner with most of our collective efforts going to address this issue. In this context the news that China would withdraw its troops and both our armies will get back to those previously held positions is welcome news. One sincerely hopes that this situation would be an enduring one and we move on to a more progressive phase of engagement. Honestly, too much is at stake.
