As we announced last week, You Will Eventually Be Forgotten will - TopicsExpress

As we announced last week, You Will Eventually Be Forgotten will also be a graphic novel called Ribbon, illustrated by Ben Sears (Free Ben Sears). They both come out August 19th on Count Your Lucky Stars Records and Topshelf Records. One of my standards when writing lyrics is that they should be strong enough to stand alone without music- to the point where you should be able to read them and judge them not as lyrics, but as a poem or a separate work unto itself. Its very easy for artists to make lyrics an afterthought or second to a melody, and the lyrics can suffer because something sounds better sang in a certain way as opposed to being more sound lyrics. I think when you make word choice first, it also forces you to come up with more interesting ways to voice them. I know for a lot of people, lyrics are not a big deal. Thats alright, there is no shame in that. Not all songs need great lyrics to be great. I am by no means calling myself an amazing lyricist. But I hope to connect with you all with these lyrics, and maybe even turn some listeners on to how lyrics can shape the song- for better or worse. I also think it will be an interesting experience for the audience to know the lyrics first, with no idea of how the melody goes, no idea how long a song is, or anything else. Hearing it for the first time after knowing the lyrics may be much different than you might expect- which may be good or bad. I would compare this to a favorite book becoming a movie or TV series. Watching Game of Thrones the first times was a very strange experience because I had been reading the series since like 1999 or so. It was exciting and tense, and I had a lot of expectations. I ended up loving it and now will probably find it will shape my view reading the next book when it comes out in 100 years (lol). Over the course of the next 9 or so weeks leading up to the albums release, we will be posting a new set of lyrics every Monday and some of the next few Wednesdays. The songs on this new LP are 11 auto-biographical short stories. The first one is the title track for our graphic novel and is called RIbbon. I will post those lyrics later today at 6 PM EST, and the rest will be posted at 1 PM on their respective days. I look forward to your comments and thoughts and cant wait to share this whole album with you. Thanks for reading!
