As we broke camp that morning our group of 20 wilderness - TopicsExpress

As we broke camp that morning our group of 20 wilderness adventurers played around doing the "hokey pokey" and celebrated the end of a wonderful 10 day adventure. We looked forward to getting back to civilization. We had traversed the Idaho wilderness with no radios or cellphone service, even our watches had been left behind. We climbed into our rafts at around 9:15 AM and headed down the rapids of the Middlefork of the Salmon River. After a rapid run, the group in my raft waited for the others near an eddy by the river bank. As the boat undulated upon the glassy, oddly still water, we spontaneously began to sing Amazing Grace. The other boats caught up to us and we continued down the river to the confluence where we could see river guides buzzing around the banks and our bus waiting to take us to the lodge for a hot meal and a much needed shower. I grabbed my backpack and tossed it onto dry land, and with one foot still in the boat, the first words I heard, "Someone flew a plane into the World Trade Center." I sat down on my bag and wept.
