As we pull ourselves together and plan the next move, it’s important to let yourself feel low first. Remember what this feels like. It’s OK for it to feel this brutal. This has been the reality for a long time. The Scots and the English are going through a complex identity crisis, which means coming to terms with the past. Not just what we’ve done to each other, but what we then done together abroad. In going to the depths of these despairs, we can find the real stuff hope is made of. Not the empty Obama Hope. But a Berlin Wall Hope. A Mandela Hope. A hope that, knowing the depths of it’s opposite, resolves to change a relationship together forever. Let’s know our past, come to terms with it’s horrors and together free this island of Britain from the ever tightening clutch it’s under. To do this we must unclench our own fists, and find a fresh path into this new century with open hands.
