Ask any Cassville High School student about what they think a Legacy is and you will get a very passionate and inspiring answer as refuge staff learned last week. The students will tell you of the examples in their lives they have done something to leave a Legacy. They will also tell you the great Legacy for future generations the refuge is in itself and how their school is proud to be a part of it. The students took part in collecting forest seeds with refuge staff on the refuge in Pool 11 as part of the Legacy Program. Some of the students came back to volunteer having done it in previous years; others participated for the first time. There was no shortage of dedication as students braved the cold weather only breaking from gathering and cleaning seeds for lunch. With the help of the students refuge staff now have several large bags of lowland forest seeds to use for future refuge forest restorations.
