Attending your childs concert is a mixed bag of emotions isnt it? - TopicsExpress

Attending your childs concert is a mixed bag of emotions isnt it? Feeing so proud you could burst, but at the same time so bloody bored you want to blow things up. You sit through 45 minutes of the worst singing/acting/dancing imaginable (except for the three minutes your kid is on when you simultaneously hold your breath and try not to cry) then the curtain drops and wild clapping ensues. You think its over so you quickly stand up to beat the traffic out and as you almost claim poll position at the exit someone says its only intermission. Crushed you fight your way back in to buy a $27 tube of stale pringles, a box of malteasers and some flat coke. Back in you go for the 2nd half (which usually doesnt even involve your kid) and finally after four encores it really is finished. The lights come up and you look around at all the other parents wide-eyed and exclaim: Is it over? I think it is! Quick lets get out of here! You find your child, sweaty, excited, make-up smeared down their face and you sweep them up in a glorious hug. When asked if you loved it you lie saying how much you DID love it and you couldnt POSSIBLY pick your favourite. Back to the car, strap them in and as you drive home you keep glancing back to watch as you small persons eyes close. When you get home you gently carry them inside, tuck them in, smell their hair (in a non creepy fashion) and stand and marvel at what you created while your hand hovers over the light switch. You flick it off walking away feeling so overwhelmed with love type feelings that you forget the moments of eye watering boredom and will happily saddle up for the next school production when it rolls around again.
