Attention PIES: Help a Mom Out: She writes: I have a soon to be 4 year old in public school special ed. pre-k. Negative behaviors have been on the rise. At the last IEP meeting we said wed revisit the issue of doing an functional behavior analysis. The end of December I e-mailed his teacher asking for an IEP meeting so I could request the FBA. In early Jan she told me she would set something up by he end of the month. I e-mailed her again a few days ago asking when the meeting would be. Ive gotten an acknowledgment from her, but to be fair, we have had 3 snow days this week. However, Im beginning to think Im being ignored. I am the most non-confrontational person. Thinking about having to confront her face-to-face or going to her supervisor keeps me up all night and is starting to cause me to have anxiety. I know I need to stand up for my son, but as you know, anxiety can be absolutely crippling. Does anyone have any tips on how to approach the situation for someone who is petrified of standing up to/confronting people? I feel like I have a permeant knot in my stomach.
