August 14 Jeremiah 7-9 Todays Devotional Thought: In todays reading, God warns that the days come that he will punish the circumcised with the uncircumcised because the circumcised are only circumcised in the flesh, but not in the heart. These people may have been born Gods chosen people. In the flesh they had the right ancestry for this special designation, but they had rejected God. Whereas God had chosen them, they had chosen other gods and rejected Jehovah. In spite of incredible privilege, they had shunned the LORD, and the time has come for them to be judged for it. Some think their heritage or the fact they grew up in church makes them a Christian. Here we find that to be a child of God, we must be circumcised, so to speak, in our heart. To be saved, we must repent of our sins and trust in Christ as our Savior. Those who do not, will be grouped with the rest of the world in judgment regardless of all else, because they have rejected Gods way.
