Photo: Facebook 0 Tweet 0 ADADEVOH EBOLA EBOLA VIRUS DISEASE ECONOMIC COMMUNITY OF WEST AFRICAN STATES LAGOS NIGERIA PATRICK SAWYER UNITED STATES Nigeria loses top doctor to ebola A consultant physician who led the team of doctors that treated Liberian-American ebola patient Patrick Sawyer has succumbed to the virus Dr. Ameyo Adadevoh had been receiving treatment since she first showed symptoms of the virus and recently an online appeal was started to get the U.S. government to provide her with the experimental drug zMapp. Dr. Adadevoh was one of the top endocrinologists in Nigeria and reports indicate she died on Tuesday evening. Reports indicate she went into a coma on Monday and didn’t regain consciousness. The ability of Nigeria to contain the virus is attributed by many to Dr. Adadevo and her insistence that the sick Patrick Sawyer must remain at the First Consultant Hospital despite extreme pressure from top officials that the ECOWAS diplomat be allowed to leave for Calabar, the capital of Cross River state in South Eastern Nigeria. In recognition for Dr. Adadevoh’s role and the lives it invariably saved, there are already c alls for the government to give her a posthumous honour.
