August 21, 2014 3 lbs 9 ozs! Maybe Sunday is good for 4 lbs after all, will see! Besides the weight being in such a great place, the other super news today is that her labs came back with a particular milestone we have been watching for. Red blood cells die, and in our bodies we get new ones because the bone marrow creates them. And we take it for granted. In a baby, they have all the red blood cells they need when born, and until they start losing them, the bone marrow doesnt kick in and start making them. So the milestone is to know if Abigails bone marrow is working or not. And it is! She is anemic right now, which she has to lose enough red blood cells for the bone marrow to trigger its production cycle, and according to the labs its working as it should be! They have to watch it and make sure it is making enough, but just that it is making any is a good sign and means no intervention. Overnight tonight, at 1:07 am, Abigail will be one month old. I think Cheryl has been talking about that all day, and cant honestly blame her. Its been a crazy five weeks getting here counting the week she was in the hospital while they tried to keep her pregnant. Simply crazy. But cant complain about how things are turning out for the three of us!
