August 8th, 2014 A note from the Commanding Officer: Dear WAYNE E. MEYER Families and Friends, This past week WAYNE E. MEYER and her Crew participated in Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) Singapore. This was the 20th year this exercise between the Republic of Singapore Navy and the US Navy has occurred. The exercise included Anti-Submarine warfare, Anti-Air Warfare, and Anti-Surface Warfare exercises DIVTACS, gunnery events, and a torpedo exercise. “CARAT” provided our armed forces an opportunity to work together to sharpen our skills and learn from each other to continue our shared vision of regional security and stability. Please join me in recognizing the motivators of the week: - BZ to CS1(AW/SCW) Tessie Thomson CS2 Danilo Aungon, CS2 Johnnie Jazzmere, CS2 Michael Rantins, CS2 Rodrick Sheridan, CS3 Diana HerediaTorres, CS3(SW) John Duong, CSSN Shyka Nicholas, CSSN Clarence Humphrey, CSSN Chase Peterson, CSSN Jessie Cruz, CSSR Skylar James, CSSR Kassondra Wieser, SH1(SW/AW) Jason Phaff, SH1(SW) Michael Ehle, STG1(SW) Nicholas Phillips, STGSA Zachary Apardian, BM3 Jason Beers, LS2 Joe Bengim, EMFA Stephanie Esparza, YN3 Blake Fuchs, GM3 Colin Goodfield, OSSR Michey Hernandez, ET3 Miquel Hernandez, FC3 Aaron Leggett, GSMFR Kimberly Rutherford and SN Keith Sahraie for contributing to a very successful execution of CARAT Singapore 2014 reception on board attended by 100 high-ranking United States and Singapore Officers and distinguished guests. - BZ to HT2(SW) Alex Gilfoy, HT3(SW) Brandon Berger and HT1(SW/AW) Jeffrey Morgan for their hard work in repairing 1B VCHT pump. - BZ to the Flight Deck team for successful cross-deck landings with a Republic of Singapore Navy S-70B helicopter. - BZ to the SAR swimmers and boat team for a safe and successful retrieval of a helicopter-launched exercise torpedo. - BZ to CTT2(SW) Nicholas Pane and CTT2(SW) Antron Johnson-Gray for countless hours of hard work in the restoration of the SLQ-32. - BZ to OI Division Air and Missile Defense team, Anti-Submarine Warfare team and Anti-Surface Warfare team in a successful exercise with the Republic of Singapore Navy. - BZ to STG2 Aaron Russell, STG2(SW) Jason Stein and STG3(SW) Sarah Chupp for their tireless efforts in troubleshooting and identifying a casualty in the Underwater Fire Control Console for AN/SQQ-89 SONAR suite during CARAT Singapore 2014. Their system expertise allowed them to immediately identify the root cause of the casualty and implement temporary alternative solutions. Their efforts ensured WAYNE E. MEYER was still mission ready during an international exercise with the Singaporean Navy. - BZ to BM1(SW) Darnell hall, MA1(SW) Michael Hodosky, GMC(SEL) Shaun Sargent, FC2(SW) Robert Elkins, BM2(SW) Candace Wortham, ET2(SW) Jake Girod, GSE3 Jacob Zander and GSM2 Colin Combs for participating in a base defense exercise with the Republic of Singapore Navy. This exercise allowed our two Navies to share different small boat defense tactics against inner harbor small boat threats. - BZ to STG3(SW) Jerred Culley for leading the charge in troubleshooting efforts on SONAR equipment cooling system casualty. He devoted 28 off-duty hours to troubleshoot, track repair parts, and conduct a thorough operability test. He also served as the main POC for distance support and provided detailed information of shipboard troubleshooting status to off ship technical support. His efforts helped restore redundancy to the Sonar Equipment Cooling System and maintain 100% ASW effectiveness. - BZ to LTJG Sam Kang, our Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer, for his efforts and assistance in the planning, coordination, and execution of CARAT Singapore 2014. LTJG Kang assumed duties as WEMs lead point of contact to ensure all planning and objective milestones were met. - BZ to the WEM Gunnery Crew, led by ENS Michael Murphy, GMC(SEL) Shaun Sargent, GM1(SW/AW) Carolyn Scott, FC1(SW) Heather Del Valle, GM2 A J Herrera, GM2(SW) Maria Chiman, GM2 Jose Mendoza, GM3 Christian Pabon, GM3 April Estrada, GM3 Jacqueline Marsalona, and GM3 Colin Goodfield, for their outstanding efforts during CARAT Singapore 2014. The Combat Gunnery team ensured WEM was able to support two live fire events, four Air Defense and Surface Defense exercises and kept with the mission of PUTTING ORDNANCE ON TARGET by successfully engaging a floating surface target with zero spot and 100% accuracy with the MK 45 5/62 Gun. Additionally this team was pivotal in support of a highly successful live fire TORPEX by configuring a MK46 REXTORP for Air Launch capabilities and ensured that this weapon released with zero discrepancies. Their efforts were further extended when successfully recovering and re-stowing the MK46 REXTROP with zero mishaps ahead of schedule. - BZ to the WEM Strike Team - led by ENS Ashley Guy and FC1(SW) Christopher Flores, to include FC2(SW) Lisa Gard, FC2(SW) Jason Donnell, FC2(SW) Michael Carcione, FC2 A.B. Coe, and FC3 Devon Cybulski, on another job well done during their most recent Fleet-Level TLAM exercise. The WEM Strike Team leads SEVENTH FLEET ships in all tomahawk exercises! - BZ to LTJG Alexander Trefilek, GMC(SW) Michael Sis, MA1 Michael Hodosky, and BM1(SW) Darnell Hall for their planning and efforts during CARAT Singapore 2014 Base Defence and VBSS exercises. Their outstanding training abilities led the WEM VBSS and Boat Teams to contribute to Singaporean Navy exercises, thus achieving bi-lateral training milestones and maritime security operation improvement. - BZ to the WEM CARAT Sports Teams for winning all three sporting events during CARAT 2014. WEM achieved decisive victories in Basketball, Soccer, and Tug-of-War. BZ to ENS Byrne for planning and organizing the teams! - BZ to MR2(SW) Tyler Long for assisting Combat Systems Department in the replacement of the Rodmeter. MR2(SW) Long tapped out four screw holes that housed the TOP HAT seawater protection device to allow the safe installation of the Rodmeter with no leaks. - BZ to IC2(SW) Chjonclaude Williams for his efforts on repairing the AFT Stacks Camera after an extended outage. - BZ to IT2 Donovan Savage and ITSN Patrick Nogaj for their outstanding support maintaining the CENTRIXS network during CARAT Singapore. Their efforts had a direct impact on improved relations and operability between the U.S. and Singapore. - BZ to IT2(SW/IDW) Kareemah Wingard and IT2(SW/IDW/EXW) Ashley Peterson on their efforts maintaining communications during CARAT Singapore. They swiftly managed a complex communications plan to ensure maximum reliability was maintained. - Congratulations to our newest selected Chief Petty Officers: OSC(SEL) Benjamin Rodriguez, GSMC (SEL) Stephen Simmons, GMC(SEL) Shaun Sargent, FCC(SEL) Hector Perez-Garcia, MMC(SEL) Mark Holbert and BMC(SEL) Jairon Rivera.
