Aul & Aul Win Military Event After Three Day Lead Paul Aul & Jeffrey Aul Eufaula, AL – The team of Paul Aul & Jeffrey Aul have won the 2014 ABA Military Team Bass Tournament at Lake Eufaula with a three day total of 58.83lbs. Aul & Aul stayed ahead of the other teams during the entire event by leading all three days. The Auls weighed in 20.19lbs on Day One, 20.19lbs on Day Two, and 17.39lbs on Day Three to take the win. The Auls said that they covered water from the dam to north of the Hwy 82 Causeway, burning over 25 gallons of gas per day. Paul Aul said, “The key was to cover water”. Their fish came from shallow and deep water using white spinnerbaits and black/blue 1/2oz. jigs. Second place of the event went to the team of Russell Mott Jr. & David Vowels with a three day total of 54.49lbs. Mott & Vowels spent all three days north of the Florence area in Cliantt Branch. They caught their Day One and Day Two bags of bass by swimming black/blue jigs with a swimbait trailer through the area grass beds. The team did not have a fish until 1 p.m. on Day Three, but they scratched up a 13.80lb limit by spending their last hour of the day dragging a Carolina rigged watermelon/red 10” Berkley Power Worm on a point in Cowikee Creek. 2nd place Russell Mott Jr. & David Vowels Clay Jens & John Adams finished in third place with a three day total of 52.29lbs. Jens & Adams fished in Pataula Creek and in the area known as “The Witch’s Ditch” all three days of the event. They caught their bass throwing Spro frogs in the grass early and dragging ledges in 6-15ft of water with a Carolina rig. The fourth place team of Jessie Ayers & Frank Untalan used an unusual technique to catch most of the fish that they weighed in at the event. They used a white 3/8oz Chatterbait by “jigging it like a spoon” in 10-20ft of water. Ayers & Untalan spent most of their time on a deep bank south of Cheneyhatchee Creek and in the mouth of Pataula Creek. They, also, caught a few of their bass on a Texas rigged green pumpkin Senko with a 3/8oz weight. The rest of the top 10: 5. Michael McGill & Hoyt Tidwell II 50.32lbs 6. Stanley Chandler & Kyle Brooks 49.10lbs 3rd place Clay Jens & John Adams 7. George Kunkle III & Clifton Holt 48.14lbs 8. Steve Drinnon & David Coleman 47.88lbs 9. Jim Hill & Harry Potts 47.84lbs 10. James Sheehan & Rollin Willmon 47.72lbs Day Three Big Bass was brought in by the team of Stan Chandler & Kyle Brooks. The team of Timmy Ezell & Mike Dimatteo held on to Big Bass of the event with the 6.07lb largemouth that they brought in on Day Two. This event was hosted by the Eufaula-Barbour Chamber of Commerce.
