Auto Repair Tip of The Day: if you take your car in to have - TopicsExpress

Auto Repair Tip of The Day: if you take your car in to have something replaced, you can actually ask them in advance to give you all of the old parts, and physically show you where the new parts were installed. This will help ensure that you know they changed the part. As a wife of an auto technician, I know that most technicians are paid commission, or piece rate, which gives them every incentive to work faster, which often leads to cut corners wherever possible to make a decent wage. In other words, if your technician doesnt find anything wrong with your car, he/she probably doesnt make any money. Each repair is assigned a certain amount of hours the technician is paid for. If the technician has a repair that pays 5 hours, he gets paid for 5 hours of work, whether it took him 2 hours, 8 hours, 10 hours... If you own a car, please share this! I sincerely hope it will get major coverage to the point that every shop wonders if every car might have a hidden camera and take measures to be more ethical. I hope this is just the start of a long road to change in the auto service industry! Ryk, I wonder how your shop would do if they were put under these hidden cameras. I would really love to see your favorite service adviser on there.
