Avast 2014 Features a New Simpler Interface, Built-In Apps, and More Win/Mac: Avast, our favorite antivirus for Windows, unveiled Avast 2014 this week, which sports a newly designed interface thats easier to navigate and get around, built-in apps for Avasts other products, and a few new tricks like a hardened protection mode that uses crowd-sourced data to keep PCs locked down tight. The new Hardened Mode is designed for novice users who get themselves into trouble or for administrators looking to lock down settings without restricting accounts. This mode only allows known, whitelisted software to install, drawing on Avasts community database of safe apps as a resource. The new Rescue Disk feature lets you create emergency bootable media in case of a serious problem. Beyond that, many of the changes make the app itself easier to use, or are cosmetic. The new interface is smoother and more functional, and makes getting to those the apps features and settings easier than before. Plus, it blends in nicely with Windows trend towards flat design. The built-in app store gives you quick access to other Avast products that you can purchase, upgrade to, or download, as well as updates for any you already have installed. Avast 2014 is free, and you can download it at the link below. Avast 2014 | via CNET ift.tt/eA8V8J ift.tt/16MNYyF Source: Lifehacker
