BAMBO SPEAKS OUT HARARE giants CAPS United go out in search of their first win outside Harare but they should not expect an easy outing when they engage Moses Chunga’s basement side Chiredzi at Chishamiso tomorrow.Chiredzi, who were promoted at the beginnin of the season, are currently anchoring the table with one win from 11 matches. Their coach, Chunga, yesterday said they wanted to start collecting maximum points to get their campaign back on track and have targeted maximum points this weekend. Chiredzi lost their last fixture 1-0 at Chicken Inn. The last time they were at Chishamiso they gave away a first half lead to share the spoils with log leaders Hwange. “We have been working on our weaknesses. I notice that we haven’t been utilising our chances and we have been conceding soft goals. So we dedicated most of our time on that and what is now is to implement on the field of play,” said Chunga. The team will, however, miss the services of striker Norman Maroto through illness while James Dzingirai and skipper Fidelis Mangezi are out with injuries. The veteran coach also revealed that Makepekepe had treated him badly in the past when he worked as head of technical department but was not holding onto grudges. “I have had good and bad times at CAPS United but I realise that life is too short to have eternal enemies. Experience is a great teacher. I learnt some of the things of life the hard way during my days at the team but I am happy some of those things are actually helping me now in my continuous life struggles,” said Chunga. CAPS United have redoubled their efforts as they press for their first win outside Harare. The Green Machine have met with sharply contrasting fortunes home and away. Makepekepe have returned home empty-handed in all five trips they have undertaken outside the capital this season while they have also not lost a single match on their own turf. Financial challenges are believed to have affected their trips as the players were demanding their dues most of the time. Team manager Luis Maio yesterday said they have impressed upon the players the importance of collecting points on the road. Their only away win was the 2-1 victory over Harare City at Rufaro early in the season. “We are hungry for the points. If you look at the log standings, we are only five points away from the top team. Had we won one or two away matches imagine where we would be right now on the log table? We have been talking about that extensively and we hope for some positive responses. “Right now the spirits are high in the camp following our win against Shabanie Mine. It also goes without saying we have another tricky fixture against log leaders Hwange coming up right after the Chiredzi game. “That game will not be easy either. So it’s important to maintain that winning spirit. In my opinion, we have a strong squad capable of competing for the title if we play our cards well. We need the points in Chiredzi. “Our players should just go out there, take the chances at goal and try to concentrate as well in defence,” said Maio. CAPS United are coming from a 3-0 demolition of Shabanie Mine in their last match at the National Sports Stadium. They have a clean health bill and Mangwiro is not expected to make major changes to the team that won last week with Malawian international Gerald Phiri at the heart of their impressive show.
