BDF REBUTTAL: BDF SOLDIERS IN THAMAGA GANG The Botswana Defence - TopicsExpress

BDF REBUTTAL: BDF SOLDIERS IN THAMAGA GANG The Botswana Defence Force wishes to record its discontent regarding an article titled ‘BDF Officers Among Thamaga Gang’, which appeared on Mmegi Monitor dated 01 December 2014. The article mentions that there are “at least two” Botswana Defence Force members in a Thamaga Gang that has been petrifying the village. The newspaper further alleges that the Botswana Police said this at a Kgotla meeting where they confirmed that there are BDF members in the gang. The BDF therefore wishes to inform the public that the article is not only unfounded, but is deliberately intended to misinform the public and put the BDF into disrepute. The BDF would like to categorically assure the public that none of its service members has ever been a suspect, investigated or detained in the Thamaga matter. The Newspaper has never sort any confirmation from the BDF regarding the members alluded to in the article. This can only be construed as a deliberate effort to tarnish the image and reputation of the BDF by publishing a biased story void of factual information. The BDF further notes that some media outlets continue to get away with unethical behavior in which they knowingly distort facts and publish false information on issues that bear critically on the disciplinary nature of the BDF. This can only be interpreted as calculated to tarnish the image of the BDF in pursuit of profit from the sale of newspaper. Contrary to what the newspaper is portraying, the BDF remains a professional organization with values and one of the values is ‘Discipline’. This is an integral part of being a member of the BDF, therefore anything to the contrary is an abomination and has no place in the organization. It is important to note that the BDF is duty bound to defend Botswana’s territorial integrity, sovereignty and national interests to include any life that resides within its borders. We therefore demand the publishing of this rebuttal and unconditional retraction of the article by Mmegi Monitor. Colonel T K Dikole Director, Protocol and Public Affairs, Botswana Defence Force
