BJJ school owners and students: Id love for you to check out Clothed in Confidence—a project started by my friend Tom Callos that believes that suitable clothing could, and likely does, play a role in a child’s confidence and ability to fit in with peers in a way that might lessen the likelihood of teasing and bullying. This isnt to help kids fit in by buying them designer clothes that all the popular kids are wearing. Its to help those less fortunate who are being teased because their shoes are falling apart, theyre wearing the same pants every day because its the only one they own, etc. It also helps their self-esteem knowing that theyll be seen for who they really are, not for their familys financial hardships. Hes calling on us to be a resource to help prevent bullying, and theres no better anti-bullying martial art than BJJ (IMO). Were a cancer-fighting organization, but we support any effort that helps the world become a better place for our children to live on behalf of the BJJ community.
