BORDER PERSONNEL MEETING HELD AT KIBITHU -Indrajit Tingwa Namsai 24th Oct.2014 :With the aim to maintain peace and tranquility along the LAC in the Eastern Arunachal Pradesh and to promote peace and cooperation between the Indian Army (IA) and Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) of China, a Border Personnel Meeting was held at Kibithu on 23 October 2014 between personnel of Indian Army and Peoples Liberation Army of China. Chinese troops joined Indian troops for joint celebrations of Diwali, the festival of lights. Joint celebrations of important events by troops of both countries forms part of the Border Defence and Cooperation Agreement (BDCA) signed exactly one year ago on 23 October 2013 at Beijing. The Indian Delegation was led by Brigadier Virendra Vats, SM, VSM and the Chinese side was led by Senior Colonel Hu Xiao Bai. The two sides exchanged views on issues of mutual interest and the discussions were followed by a cultural programme comprising folk dances by various tribes of Arunachal Pradesh and a friendly Volleyball match. The meeting was held in an extremely friendly atmosphere and both sides reiterated the importance of maintaining peace and tranquility along the Line of Actual Control. The meeting also marked formalising of Kibithu (Wacha) as an additional venue for Border Personnel Meetings and Flag Meetings in Arunachal Pradesh. Till now,similar meetings are being conducted at Nathu La in Sikkim and Bum La in Tawang. Establishment of additional meeting points along the Line of Actual Control facilitates greater engagement between Indian Army and Peoples Liberation Army which helps develop mutual understanding and cooperation between border troops. These meetings are also helpful in resolving local issues related to maintenance of Peace and Tranquility along the Line of Actual Control.
