BUHARI’S CERTIFICATE BROUHAHA: WHAT AN IRONIC ZEAL OVER A WORTHLESS CAUSE Alas, the Jonahideens,TANmites and PDPigs have succeeded despite the warnings of respected individuals in drawing revered institutions like the military in the mud. All because of an election, they are certain to lose. This is sickening, the level of dirt, they are ready to throw about shows the level of moral decay our society has gone down to. It is sickening that a man, who has contested thrice for the presidency and was cleared at each turn is being accused now of forging his educational qualifications, and lying under oath speaks volume of the attention span of some of our compatriots. They have only succeeded in making the nation a laughing stock in the comity of nations. In fact, The US WAR COLLEGE was so irritated, with the constant request for Muhammadu Buhari’s profile,by the TANmites, that it stated clearly, that Muhammadu Buhari attended the institution and was awarded a Diploma on completing his course, and went further to clarify that the institution only started awarding a Masters Degree in the year 2000, more than 15 years after Muhammadu Buhari graduated from the institution, and so could not have awarded a Masters degree to him like all others who attended later. Muhammadu Buhari served the nation diligently in his career, fought valiantly during the Nigerian Civil War for the unity of the country, fought off the Chadian invaders as Chief of Army Staff, and restored Nigeria’s dignity, crushed the Maitatsine Uprising to show he has no tolerance for barbarism masquerading as religious fervor, and was crucial in the most disciplined era of Nigeria’s genuine fight against indiscipline and corruption. He later served in the PTF, heading the organization which built roads, hospitals, provided academic materials and other infrastructure which are still in use till today. Such a man deserves respect even from his ardent enemies. Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu captured it perfectly in Abeokuta when he questioned the sanity of those asking for Buhari’s certificate. How could he rise through the ranks of the Army without having the requisite qualifications?. The GEJites in their characteristic muck-racking template know quite well, theiur allegations hold no water, pictures of Muhammadu Buhari in secondary school abound online. The implication of him not attending secondary school as ‘claimed’ means General Shehu Yar’adua also scammed the Military Board,as he attended the same school with General Buhari. That would also means hundreds of the first set of Northern Civil servants or elite military corps didn’t attend secondary school. The entry made on the Nigerian Army Form 199A at the point of documentation after Buhari was commissioned as an officer, indicated that the former Head of State obtained the West African School Certificate (WASC) in 1961. “With credits in relevant subjects: English Language, Geography, History, Health Science, Hausa and a pass in English Literature. The Army also confirmed that Buharis secondary school principal wrote a letter to them to identify Buhari as his student. For confused minds who don’t understand how the Military works, it was not in the practice of the military in the 1960s to keep WASC in the personal files of officers.WASC was only cited by the recruiting board and a brief on it will be made and kept in the record of the officer. The only files kept in the records of the officer are the trainings embarked upon by the officer upon joining the Nigerian Military. The full report of the Military Secretary which Brigadier General Laleye cunningly side-steped is quite-clear about this. I challenge anyone to prove me wrong. One understands the morbid fear of individuals like Brigadier General Olajide Olaleye in the top brass of the Army, who are jittery about the impending victory of General Buhari, which will mean a probe in their rotten affairs. Their pepper-souping and stout-ing frolicking rendezvous while innocent soldiers are being denied of ammunition and welfare, causing a dearth in morale and a near stultification in the fight against Boko Haram will be beamed on. Unfortunately, the season of change is here, he can choose to denigrate the integrity of revered institutions like the Military which should not only be above board ethically, but also professional enough for its bureaucratic effectiveness to be called into question. The Buhari Certificate issue is much ado about nothing, honest and patoritc Nigerians needn’t worry much about the step taken by TANmites and PDPigs, as,Chief Bisi Onabanjo once said, about one of his opponents, ‘ I’ve never seen someone expend so much zeal on a worthless cause’.
