BUON COMPLEANNO TO OUR LITTLE ITALIAN SCHOOL! WE ARE FIVE - TopicsExpress

BUON COMPLEANNO TO OUR LITTLE ITALIAN SCHOOL! WE ARE FIVE YEARS OLD! What a wonderful business milestone we have reached today. I am so, so proud of this accomplishment, and feel totally blessed to have been able to accomplish what we have accomplished here-especially when so many told me it could not be done. HA! Those people obviously did not know this Sabatino girl. To be honest-there have been many, MANY times when I have wanted to quit. Walk out this door and not come back. This area has been a struggle since DAY ONE-the zoning, the serious lack of parking, the lack of security-all have made me feel at times that this just could not be worth it. It can still a bit of a struggle- because its a business-and its life-and now I refuse to run away. I look at these little faces and when I hear this beautiful language being spoken, and watch the joy these kids have when they are singing in Italian or working on a cultural project.-and all the trials and tribulations of a start-up, have disappeared into the past. Where they belong. And now that we have been recognized by the Italian Consulate-and supported of course, by so many wonderful families and volunteers, this school has become even more special to me. We are growing, and we are now an important piece of the Italian-American community in the South Bay-and that was and continues to be, the goal. Our school is a place where people of all ages are now coming to attend Italian classes, or enroll their children in Italian school. The language is being learned, and shared. This connection to our roots makes me so happy. A special thank you of course, to Maestra Sheila Johnson. I could not do this without her constant support, and her ability to go with the flow. Thanks to my cousins; Angela Long for always making me laugh-always. Yes. ALWAYS. To Angelina Sabatino for always helping when needed-to Regina Margo for being here and being so wonderful with these kids. To Sarra for her support and love.To my aunties Lucia Sabatino Marks and Angie Margo for always being there for me during the good times and the not so great times. To my uncles, Dr. Michael Ruth who tells me often Never, ever quit and that Success is the best revenge-and whose love has shaped who I am-and to Fred Ruth for sticking around to see this, and for loving me a lot- (lol). To my baby siblings, Michael G Sabatino, and Patricia M. Sabatino for being my case studies in early childhood (lol) and thank you to my beautiful mamma-who taught me the importance of being good, and kind to the little people in my world, and who was always so good and kind to me. Her sense of humor is instilled in me, and keeps me going. And thank you dear papa for giving me a love of history and the Italian culture-and the testa dura that has come in handy these past five years. Things are changing here-fast now. Next year? FIRST GRADE!!! And we will grow a grade or two a year. And if/when we get some funding and a major supporter-we will grow even faster. And who doesnt want that? :) I said we would. And we will. The first five years was just practice. The next five will be even more amazing. Have a great day. We will!
