Back home from the Neurosurgeons office. Scheduling laminectomy and discectomy. In laymans terms, he removes the herniated disc material thats pressing on the nerve root. In the laminectomy procedure, he removes a portion of the vertebral bone or lamina, in order to reduce pressure on the spinal cord and pinched nerves. Shooting for August 22 to schedule the surgery depending on the insurance and hospital. He doesnt think a fusion is a good option since my pain is more nerve related. He is concerned that after 6 years of acute pain, I most likely will have permanent nerve damage. If the pain continues after the surgery, he thinks a spinal nerve root stimulator is a good option. Its a machine that is implanted in the body that blocks the sensation of pain to and from the brain to the nerves. So there we have it. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel! Yay!
