Barring any more embellishment by George Spivey regarding his accomplishments or contributions to the 1980s Battle era and Turntablism overall, this will be the last post I make on the subject. As I think its time to move on. Yo ScratchVision, and Im saying this respectfully dogs, of all the claims youve made in your recent post and over the years, the key figures were Jazzy Jeff, Cash Money & I as far as battle DJs. The next generation took it to new levels... is the one that got to me the most. That statement inspired me to go at you the way Ive been the past 4 days. Specifically because you were responding to a fan, Bryan Warner, who might of not been around to hear and see trailblazers in the game like EZ Gee (1985 NMS Champ), Dee Jay Cheese (1986 DMC Champ), Mix Master Ice (none of us would be cuttin the Ahhh sound if it werent for MMI), Cut Master D.C. (Brooklyns in the house...), and Joe Cooley (West Side! *In my Ice Cube voice). Excluding the aforementioned Battle DJs in your comment to Bryan was egregious on your part. Only because you know better Scratch. You wanna talk FACTS? Here are the FACTS my dude. It was cats like EZ Gee and Cheese who inspired the DJs of your elk to enter the NMS and DMC competitions. It was legends like Mix Master Ice and Cut Master D.C. that led the way in drawing attention to Hip Hop songs showcasing the beautiful sound we call Scratching (thank you GrandWizzard Theodore for inventing such a genius sound). If it wasnt for joints like Pump That Bass (Original Concept Crew) and The Night Before Christmas (Cut Master D.C.) there would of been no So What Cha Sayin (EPMD). So when you get on facebook and pontificate about how important you are to this culture and leave out others, as a student of Turntablism, DJ Battles and all things Hip Hop, its my duty to correct you son. Dont get me wrong, By no means am I typing these words thinking God anointed me the Battle era fact checker. Whats more, I respect all youve contributed to the Battle scene. But the history behind this art is more important than ANY of your accomplishments and it deserves to be protected. So the next time you decide to get on facebook and speak on how you, Cash Money and Jazzy Jeff were the key figures of the 80s era of sanctioned DJ Battles, make sure you acknowledge others that made a mark alongside yall. Im talkin DJs like Miz and Aladdin. You know, the same dudes you stood next to on stage at the end of the 1989 NMS battle. Remember? Not only did you shake hands with two legends, you literally handed the winners belt to Miz. I think its only right you honor moments like that the next time you step up on your soapbox. Peace!
