Based on the calls and inquiries made as at today i am forced to explain further how to be a member of the Nigerian Cultural Circle, the proposed cultural pressure group to promote tourism friendly communities in all local government areas in the country. Membership of NCC is not for “money bags”. All you have to do is mobilize people of like minds in your community that are committed to developing your community and local government using the cultural and tourism potentials as your political bargaining power. For years a few of us had tried to ask ourselves the question, “What is good governance”? What have some of our leaders done that can be regarded as good governance or bad governance? Why is it that since Independence we have been unable to establish good governance even with the crop of highly educated and talented people? We have come to realize that we have always found it difficult to identify our priorities and have always hoped that someday we will get there. The birth of the Nigerian Cultural Circle which was expected to be a non political association of members of the community whose main interest is protecting the culture and cultural artifacts in the communities in which they find themselves has generated the desire of some of us to form a political pressure group. As you are aware the largest political party in Africa today had as its founding members only eight people whose interest was to promote unity among the ethnic groups that form the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We intend to begin by creating and mobilizing cultural awareness among the people especially the elders and the youths in order to foster friendship not rivalry which is probably responsible to the failures that had characterized our past political experience. Membership of Nigerian Cultural Circle does not preclude your membership of a political party. It is just a pressure group to maintain democratic governance by the people; not by a group of people. The existing political parties cannot right the wrong in this country overnight especially when some people are daily planning to destroy the little gains that have been achieved. We need political pressure groups with identified priorities that will guarantee the future of the common man in his community.
