Battle of the Boyne 2014 Report So where do I start with this - TopicsExpress

Battle of the Boyne 2014 Report So where do I start with this report (the beginning I suppose) from a young age I was fascinated by strength and soon found my passion for Powerlifting the more I competed the more I loved it every competition I went to, I met new people and would now consider some of them to be my closest friends the community that surrounds powerlifting is full of some of the most amazing people, this is the main reason I love this sport so much, and this was on full display at Battle of the Boyne the camaraderie between the lifters was inspiring to say the least as the countries best shared the platform with complete novices. There are so many people to thank when it came to organising and promoting this event not forgetting everyones time is voluntary none do this for self gain with friends and family helping out in the days leading up to the show and all day long i have to say i am lucky to have the backing of the best team in the world with out them these events arent possible everyone knows who they are and i am humbled by the help and support we got from you all thank you. From the reviews we got online i think we can all agree that Battle of the Boyne 2014 was a huge success with some of the top lifters from the UK and Ireland going Head to Head. for me one of the biggest flaws in our sport is the amount of categories with people rarely having any good battles to earn their medal this is the reason why i removed the age categories from this event and i believe this worked extremely well with a few going down to the last dead lift to win pushing each other all the way which for me is what its all about 2 in particular that stood out for me was teammates ben Loughrey and andy Cusick competing for the overall equipped best lifter with ben needing to pull 360 kg after missing it at lock out on his second attempt as he ripped the bar off the floor and grinded out the lockout as he got the down command 3 white lights and the place erupted great win and andy couldnt happier to see his team mate get the win. Then we had the Ladies which is getting very popular lately as every competition we have more and more competing in Boyneside alone the girls that competed have inspired so many of our female members the girls are starting to realise that the secret to being strong healthy fit lies in lifting weights and not on the treadmills while Im talking about the ladies i have to the mention the battle to win the 75kg category with Boynesides Jenny o Brien and LPC member Tara o Shaughnessy or should i say the battle between myself and Shane Brodie :) for me this was the highlight of the day with the two girls going toe to toe in the squat and bench when we got to the dead lift tara was ahead so jenny needed to pull her 3rd which would have been a huge pb to draw with tara and take the title on points with the lighter bodyweight shane had our game plan well sussed and in the end jenny was unlucky and tara went on to win the overall female best lifter well deserved and another great battle. As best lifters go everyone that took home a trophy deserved the title of battle of the Boyne 2014 champion in the Mens full power raw we had Withhold Wolnowski with a massive 940 kg total at 126 kg bodyweight ( watch out for this guy in the future )in the mens full power equipped ben loughrey with 1090 kg 1100 will soon fall, then in the ladies full power Tara o Shaughnessy with 340 kg total at 75 kg in the single lifts we had mike Gibson with a 290 bench in the equipped section coming so close to 300 kg in the raw dead lift Shane Nugent with a 270 kg pull but he was there for a 290 kg pb he was unsuccessful but next time out he will smash it. in the equipped dead lift Gerry Mcfee opened with an easy 325 then missed 345 twice gerry is an experienced lifter with many years under the bar and last but not least Dariusz Mirowski with a massive 280 kg RAW bench just missing his third attempt at lock out of 287.5 kg Dariusz is recovering from a pec tear and when it is back to full strength i can see a 300 raw bench happening. Id also like to tank our sponsors Olimp Sports Nutrition great quality brand if anyone is interested in purchasing any olimp products call into the gym and ill look after you ,Natures Gate for all your health based supplements and advise on nutrition needs contact john you wont get any better, Blunt force follow the lads for a few good laughs and they also put out some great info on training and nutrition from some of their sponsored athletes and Sinful proteins check them out for some great tasting healthy treats. like all sporting events with out sponsors its not possible to put on such a show so thanks for your support and i look forward to working with you again in the future. The referees on the day were the only 3 things you need to be strict, fair and consistent upholding a professional standard of lifting. Spotters and loaders these guys dont get enough praise anyone that has spent the spotting and loading knows how much work these guys do and anybody that has failed a lift knows how important they are. Im not going to go on about what federation is bigger, better or stronger at the end of the day as a lifter you want the best level of competition that is available to you and the IPO will never fail in providing the most professional meets held in Ireland (fact). We strive to make every event better than the last learning from past experiences and providing a better environment for our lifters to progress. 2014 has been an extremely successful year for the IPO both on and off the platform with the new additions to the committee first of all i would like to say how happy i am to have been elected as the Secretary i look forward to working with the rest of the committee to take the IPO to new heights in 2015 our other new committee members are: Ulster Rep Billy Hutchinson Munster Rep Graham Quirke Connaught Rep Andrea o Farrell Leinster Rep Ruari Mc Cann Along with President Shane Brodie and Treasurer Sean Cregan we have a great team to provide support to all of our members.
