Because of the recent frosts and the lack of recent rainfall, the vegetation is brown and dry creating ample fuels for a fire. That coupled with the winds we had today (Saturday 1-18-2014) we had a dangerous fire situation. We had many fires popping up all over the place. There were at least five fires fought by county firefighters. Sometimes there were two or three going at the same time. At times, there were homes and structures in danger though none were lost or damaged. The pictures are from a fire in the Rocky Springs Area North of Hwy 255 and East of Rockland near the Neches River. This fire was fought by Colmesneil VFD with the Assistance of Woodville VFD and Dam B VFD along with a dozer crew from the Texas Forest Service. Tyler County Emergency Management Coordinator and the County Judge responded to the location taking note of the conditions and the efforts of our firefighters. Some of these firefighters were there working on the third fire for them that day. With conditions such as these, please everyone voluntarily refrain from outdoor burning especially with any wind present.
