Bedford County inclined to raise real estate tax Visit bedfordaboveboard for full details After reviewing expenditures set to accumulate in the next four to six fiscal years, three members of the Bedford County Board of Supervisors seemed ready to raise the real estate tax rate. Supervisor Curry Martin was the first to broach the subject of a tax increase. He quickly was backed by Thomasson and Supervisor Steve Wilkerson. Martin said in the meeting the last tax rate increase was 12 years ago, but the number could not be verified as of press time. While stressing his distaste for raising taxes, Martin said he didn’t see another way around the increase of 5 cents per $100 of assessed real estate. Wilkerson - “We can’t keep getting further and further in the hole risking essential services,” The cost to build a Liberty zone school was not included in this number.
