Before I start, this is a Post from me as a mom - not as a board member of any organization. I am asked to stiffly my opinions a lot because they typically offend some. My friends and family know I can sometimes say things that -while true- are offensive (apparently Im rude some days?!? Who knew). Youth organizations NEED parent volunteers to function!! Almost every organization I have been a part of has been run by 4-8 awesome, exhausted, and hopeful parents. They are awesome because they step up. They are exhausted because the work, have multiple kids in multiple things and still try to give. Last- they are hopeful that they can make a difference and encourage others to see the improvements and want to be a part of something great. I have volunteered with my kids different functions for 11 years now. I have done this while working, while going to school full time, and while semi-maintaining my house. I am exhausted! My nails dont get done and if my roots show much more I will have the new ?ombre? Style. It is a choice I have made to make things better for my kids and others kids. My kids are moving on - we are done with pta and we are approaching the end of our era at nwe. I will be joining a new world or high school parents whose kids want them to hide out at home cause we are no longer cool. I am ok with that part - the part I am not ok with is the lack of volunteers after us. We need to step up as parents and take stock in our kids, our schools and our community. Some things take an hour a month and some take more. Everyone has time to give and our community organizations need you to give it. Please consider joining a board or volunteering at a school or event. *end rant ;)
