Bei Bei Shuai is a free woman. She has decided to accept a plea agreement to a misdemeanor. We remain furious that this case was ever filed at all, and that she was forced to choose between pleading guilty to a crime for feeling despair and hopelessness that led her to attempt to take her own life and the ordeal of a trial, but we commend her courage and resilience. We only wish we could be there to shake her hand when the shackle is removed from her ankle and she leaves walks out free for the first time in years.
