Belgium has been breathtaking and wonderful so far! We have seen so much and had a couple of incredible experiences. We are staying in the town of Leuven, which is a university town located about 20 minutes outside of Brussels. We have had quite the amazing tour given by my friend Veerle De Wever around the city, ranging from seeing some incredible parks to university buildings! Today was rather incredible as we travelled to Ypres to the site of the Flanders Museum. It was an incredible and intense experience seeing the World War 1 museum. An incredible tribute to this traumatic event and it was truly moving. The city of Ypres was the site of much of the destruction during the war and we had a beautiful view of what the city has now become from the top of the bell tower attached to the museum. After having a quick lunch we rented bikes and travelled into the Belgian countryside to go see an amazing cemetery with thousands of soldiers buried from the war. Seeing these monuments and buildings on the actual sites where they took place was an incredibly unique and beautiful experience. Afterwards we biked to a Canadian monument (super cool) and back to the city for dinner (which was crazy tasty, so much so I took a picture). We got back on the train and headed back to Leuven stopping for great ice cream to finish off an incredible day.
