Below is a video that most people in the Law Enforcement Community have seen before. If you have not seen this video, it is graphic and extremely horrifying. I am not posting this to bring anyone down or judge this Hero. I want it to be an image and sound my fellow Wolfhunters cannot shake. I hate seeing, hearing and reading of a Brother or Sister not going home at the end of the shift because some coward made the choice he or she would rather kill than go to Jail. It is common knowledge in todays world that we, as Police Officers, do not have to wait to be hurt or killed to ACT, to include the use of deadly force. Criminals know this and are adjusting to it as well. With that said, please dont hesitate when you know a threat is there and is real. Whether a small percentage of the Community can accept this, should not keep you from being safe and following your training. This is not just for OIS. This starts at the lowest levels. Dude starts acting shady, give him some jewelry while you talk to him. Got a weird feeling about a contact, frisk him/her. IF SOMETHING DOES NOT FEEL RIGHT, FIX IT! MAKE IT SAFE! I saw a video yesterday of a group (I counted three) Police Officers dealing with a subject holding an axe and refusing to follow orders to drop it. One of the officers gave the subject commands over and over again to drop the axe. Ultimately, the subject forced the issued beyond words and was shot and killed by this officer. Again, I am not judging the Officer in the video, as I was not there, but what I will say is, I was scared for those officers just watching. Now to be clear one of the last things I want to do in my career, is use deadly force on anyone. I say one the last things, because when push comes to shove, the absolute last thing I want to do on the Job is let an innocent or Brother or Sister die because I failed to act. My point in all of this you may ask......................PLEASE BE SAFE, FOLLOW YOUR TRAINING, TRUST YOUR GUT AND GO HOME AT THE END OF THE DAY!!! Deputy Dinkheller knew what he needed to do, you could hear it in his voice, in his words, I AM IN FEAR FOR MY LIFE. However he is not with us today. Some say because he was disciplined prior to this incident for acting to quickly, so he second guessed what he knew he needed to and lost his life. Others blame stress. Honestly we will never know. I like to think that Deputy Dinkheller is watching over all of us today. I like to think that every time we are doing something that might be exposing us to unwarranted danger, Deputy Dinkheller reaches down and smacks us to help reset our OODA Loop and finish our job, thus still protecting and serving! -BR
