Benue Primaries: Ortom Dumps PDP, Picks APC Nomination Form Via Leadership The former minister of industry, trade and investment, Chief Samuel Ortom has dumped the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC), just as he picked the governorship nomination form of the APC) Ortom had resigned as minister from President Goodluck Jonathan’s cabinet to contest the governorship primaries of the PDP in Benue State which he lost. He came third in the race as he was defeated by Tehemen Tarzoor who emerged the flag bearer of the party. But barely 24 hours after he was denied the PDP ticket, Ortom quickly defected to the opposition APC. He had resigned and submitted his PDP membership card to Felix Agbaka, the ward chairman of Nzorov in Guma local government area of the state. In a press statement signed by the media adviser of Ortom governorship campaign organisation, Mr. Tahav Agerzua stated that the defection was in response to the advice by his teeming supporters who urged the former minister to seek an alternative platform for the realisation of his governorship aspiration. It noted the determination of Ortom to win the opposition ticket hence his long standing experience in politics and appealed to delegates to overwhelmingly vote for his candidature to foster unity and development in the state and country. Yesterday, there was jubilation in Makurdi and other major towns of the state over what was called “timely defection.” This is even as there is confusion in the political sphere of the state, owing to the fact that Ortom is a force and may defeat the flag bearer of the PDP.
