Beware of False Prophets Warn Other Shepherds! Every father is the shepherd of his family. He not only has the responsibility to guard his own flock from the destruction of false prophets; he also has the responsibility to warn others about the dangers he sees. This is clearly mandated in Scripture. “If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small. If thou forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain; If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?” (Proverbs 24:10-12). The Apostle Paul did not hesitate to warn others about false prophets who were ravaging the flock of God. Paul revealed his priority of warning others by his own testimony: “I am pure from the blood of all men.... After my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you .... Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears” (Acts 20:26-31). What did Paul tell those whom he warned? “I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offenses contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple” (Romans 16:17-18). One who warns others is not responsible for the results, but only for giving a clear and accurate warning. Any family that purposes to live according to Gods Word will be under attack. This should confirm to us the importance of relying on the Lords strength in living for Him and in training sons and daughters to know and love Him. In your journal this week, record the results of your meetings with your children as well as the steps you are taking to train them to reject the voices of strangers. Also, write about any encounters you have had with false prophets or teachers and how you were able to identify the error of their teaching through the truths of Scripture. Lets remain alert to the subtle influences of false teaching and “not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not” (Galatians 6:9). “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheeps clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves” (Matthew 7:15).
