Bible Study: By Their Fruits It is written: Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits you shall know them. - Matthew 7:16- 20. Some-- if not, most-- nominal Christians have the tendency to believe, Im saved/a true Believer/a Saint/ Im righteous because ______; in which, the list is endless, from, I attend church [as much as I can]....my father/mother is a pastor....I sing in the choir...I went to seminary school....i tithe often...i am a good person.... and so forth. But despite all of these noble accomplishments*, the Rich Young Man (Luke 18:18- 23) still walked away sorrowful, and Paul the Apostle still counted them as dung... (Philippians 3:4-7, 8*). Too many Christians are banking on their accomplishments-- rather than the Gospel (1 Corinthians 15:1, 2*)-- as a reason why God will accept them; in the same fashion as The Rich Young Man. Yet, it is the very nature of that sense of self righteousness which alludes to an even greater sin of PRIDE. May none of us ever feel untouchable, or as if we have already arrived [that would merely render us unteachable, due to a stubborn heart]. But instead, learn the true Gospel [that many pastors dont preach; and others dont desire to ever learn]; yield to sound teaching and instruction in the written Word, and continue producing goodly fruit: proving all things, holding fast to that which is true (1 Thessalonians 5:21). #SolaScriptura, 12/28/2014
