Bismilaah-ir-RaHman-ir-RaHeem REMINDER It was said:- 29th November 2004 (6.00PM) The author said:- Ablution (WuDU’) is one of the conditions (pre-requisite) of the prayer. It has obligatory and recommended parts. The obligatory parts are the essential parts of ablution (the deed) and if left out the ablution itself would become invalid. The recommended parts, are those parts which if left out; the ablution would still be valid but the Muslim misses the opportunity of gaining further reward for themselves. The Integrals (rukns) (The essential parts of a deed without which the entire deed would be invalid) for ablution (WuDU’) are six (other than these six are Sunnah (Recommended). It was then said:- The necessary performance of at least four of the integrals (rukns) of Ablution (WuDU’) from the six integrals are derived (proven) from the Glorious Book of the Qur’aan (proof). And the other two integrals are derived from the Sunnah (sayings and doings) of Prophet MuHammaD, peace and blessings be upon him. The four integrals derived from the Glorious Qur’aan Al-Kareem are: Washing the whole face from the normal hairline to the chin and from one ear to the other ear. Washing the hands Washing the forearms up to and including the elbows. Wet wiping the head or part of it and Washing the feet – including the ankles. The two remaining integrals which are: Having the intention in the heart when washing the face. One says in his heart: I intend to perform WuDU (ablution) or any equivalent intention. Keeping the previous order i.e., to do the WuDU’ following the order mentioned above. Are derived from the Sunnah (sayings and doings) of Prophet MuHammaD, peace and blessings be upon him. Allaah revealed in the Chapter of the Glorious Koran (Qur’aan) called Al-Maa’idah, verse (Aayah):6 يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِذَا قُمْتُمْ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ فَاغْسِلُوا وُجُوهَكُمْ وَأَيْدِيَكُمْ إِلَى الْمَرَافِقِ وَامْسَحُوا بِرُءُوسِكُمْ وَأَرْجُلَكُمْ إِلَى الْكَعْبَيْنِ Which means:- “O believers (Muslims), when you are ready to pray, you must wash your faces, hands and forearms including the elbows, wet wipe your heads, and wash your feet up to and including the ankles.” BENEFICIAL NOTE:- Among the conditions (pre-conditions – Not an essential part of the deed however without which the deed itself would be invalid) for the validity (to be valid in the first place) of purification are:- 1. Islaam - To be a Muslim; 2. To be at the age of mental discrimination (mumayyiz); 3. To remove anything that prevents water from reaching the parts that need to be washed; whether on the hair or on the skin; 4. To let the water flow on the parts (organs) that need to be washed; 5. To use purifying water – There are seven types of water which are pure and purifying – Water from the sky, water from the land and the land itself. They are:- From the sky - Rain Water From the sky - Melted Snow From the sky - Melted Hail Stones On the land - Spring Water On the land - River Water (Stream) On the land - Sea Water In the land itself (Ground) – Wells, like the pure and blessed Zam Zam well water (located in Masjid Al-Harem in Makkah (Hijjaaz – Present day Saudi Arabia) – which was bestowed upon Lady Hajar who had a complete reliance upon Allaah (her Creator) whilst searching for water for her thirsty son (Son of Abraham) called Prophet Isma^il. Allaah relieved her of her worries and struggle in providing her with the pure and blessed water, Zam Zam. Allaah sent Angel Jibril (Gabriel) peace be upon him, who hit the ground with his wing until fresh and pure water emerged and which is flowing till this very day. The water that came out of the hand of Prophet MuHammaD, peace and blessings be upon him (As this was one amongst the miracles bestowed upon Prophet MuHammaD, peace and blessings be upon him), hundreds of his companions drank from it and purified themselves with it. This matter was related by Al-Bukhariyy and others (Mutawwatir Hadith (highest level of authenticity). There are further details to this point i.e. For Purification, the water being used needs to be both pure and purifying. For example, water that has been used to purify someone else but it is not purifying for others. Supplication that is recommended to be said after completing a full Ablution (WuDU’) اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْنِي مِنَ التَّوَّابِينَ وَاجْعَلْنِي مِنَ الْمُتَطَهِّرِينَ Allahumma-j ^ alni minat-tawwabin (a), waj ^ alni minal¬mutatahhirin. Subhanaka-llahumma wa bi hamdik (a), ashhadu alla ilaha illa ant (a), astaghfiruka wa atubu ilayk. The Meaning of the WuDU’ (Ablution) Supplication I testify that no one is God but Allaah, alone, without a partner, and I testify that MuHammaD (Peace and Blessings be Upon him) is His slave and Messenger. O Allaah, make me among the frequent repenters and make me among the purified. Excellent Praise and Gratitude is due to You, O Allaah, I testify that no one is God but You. I ask You for forgiveness and I repent to You.
