Black Folks: I just read my Michigan based frat brother Jimmy E. Greenes status update where he reports that Wayne County, Michigan, that states most populous county with its seat being Detroit, had a primary voter turnout of 4.7 % today. Think about that for a minute...4.7% Then think about all of the folks in my mothers generation (many still alive) who marched, were hosed, beaten and even killed for the right to vote. And this is how the younger generation repays them? And as Nupe Jimmy Greene concludes, perhaps if some candidates in Detroit changed their last names to Obama, the turnout may have been huge? While humorous, I, too, fear that much of the great turnout of black voters in 08 and 12 will wane once the Obamas are back in private practice. And spare me the typical low mid-term election stuff because with what our people had to contend with just to gain the right to vote to begin with less than 50 years ago, one would think that black precincts would be filled to record capacity each election cycle... And to think that some of us are waging rhetorical and legal wars to end the Republican push for Voter ID laws? Hell, one doesnt need an ID if they refuse to show up in the first place.... We can do better....
