Black Friday is turning into black-and-blue Friday… Retail sales - TopicsExpress

Black Friday is turning into black-and-blue Friday… Retail sales were up 2.3 percent on Thanksgiving and Black Friday, the weakest since 2009. But Black Friday violence is showing a big rise. A few years ago, we were shocked when people were trampled at a Wal-Mart. These days, stampedes are par for the course, and shoppers are adding new wrinkles. In Chicago, a police officer who tried to stop two suspected shoplifters was dragged by their car until police shot the driver. An officer was injured at a San Bernardino Wal-Mart when police had to break up at least three brawls. A Las Vegas man who bought a big-screen TV at Target was shot in the leg as he tried to take it home. And at a Linden, New Jersey, Wal-Mart, a woman was arrested for allegedly threatening another woman with a stun gun in a fight over a shopping cart. I understand the need to save money these days. But to paraphrase the book of Mark, what doth it profit a shopper to gain a cheap iPad and lose his soul?
