Black / White What is it?? This is gonna confront what you consider To be a person that is “black” or “white” Now you look at me and say the lady is white But here is the challenge, back over hundred years ago My forefather was of mixed race (Negro and Caucasian) Matter of fact he held the highest position of the land Yes that’s right he was the president of the United States of America His name………..? Zachary Taylor That’s right at that time it was only whispered about his race But he was not going to allow slavery in the expanding territories He was murdered for his mixed race heritage and his race was lost to history I am a direct grandchild of his Now look again, am I white? Remember the rule one drop on black blood? Now my whole childhood I was beat down because I was white Not for one thing I did but just because “white” people were wrong. To suffer what was perceived as my forefather’s sins. I have lived in the black community since I was 13 years old. I cook what is considering “black” food. I have had most of the “black” experiences in life Yet when it came to dating I always ended up with someone black. That black “thing”, WAS not because I was LOOKING for or HAD to have them Just ended up that way. I never really looked at color My family as I was growing up used to have a hard time with me, to have me describe one child from another because I saw them as all the same. I always looked and still looked at persons heart. At this point, I’d like to say to the black lady’s out there I never “STOLE” your man and what business is it of yours If love comes in different colors maybe if you opened your hearts you would find love of your own. I have never had white man, EVER!! I say that because at this point I look at them as very hateful. I see how they interact, talk, and treat people They scare me! When I was carrying my son, who is black. I was told a joke, how does a black baby get thrown off a building Too say the lease not funny but the message was sent Again let’s come back to that drop of black blood When a baby is born his blood transfers to the mother So when my black baby was born his black blood transferred into my body, in other words his blood became my blood. Again I ask you to look at me, am I white? It has been a heart breaking life at times not being accepted but I will NEVER change me!! I am proud of my black blood. I am proud of my forefather. I am proud of my ancestry. Only, a hand full of people over my entire life knows of my heritage. Why? Because of the hateful comments made about it. “That white girl, just trying to be black” “Who does she think she is” “She has had it easy cause her color” Easier, just not to say anything at all. I have gone back to the black history books and know more black history than most blacks do. I wanted to know my history but more important so that my son would know. My name is written in stone in this country for the work I have achieved for my fight against hatred that is my greatest achievement because if we as a people don’t stop looking at color and hating we will never be healed. Remember what you hate you will soon become. Love all people. One person at a time. Only GOD knows the heart of man/woman So am I just a unique individual That comes with all kinds of special gifts And talents and yes even draw backs!
