Blog from EH01 - Caribbean 600 Race update - Its the 2nd night of the C600 and we are barrelling south towards the black spot of Guadeloupe at 8 - 9 kts in lumpy seas. The last couple of days have been tough ones with little sleep for any of the crew as we chase the 2 yachts in front and watch over our shoulders for the pack behind. We got away well with a great start and first beat, managing to hold our heavy reaching symmetrical kite against all the other much better suited asymmetric spinnakers up towards the mark at Barbuda. We pulled off a complicated kite drop, gybe and re hoist of the bigger masthead kite well, staying just ahead of Sunset Child and pulling into 2nd place as we stretched our legs under full sail towards Nevis. We have had a few little pickles with a loose batten requiring dropping the main with the kite up and sending a crew man aloft also whilst under spinnaker to retrieve a lost halyard on the run up to St Marten but all in all spirits are high. All the crew are, as said, already tired and whilst this leg is relatively straight forward, spending 6 hours on deck in the wet is going to take its toll but we are all aware that to stay ahead of the pack we nee to push hard, the uncertainty of Guadeloupe lies ahead.
