Blooming termites they ate my wheelbarrow. I broke the legs on the wheelbarrow a few years ago overloaded with gravel and repaired them with plywood and pressure treated wood but the termites must have liked the plywood as it turned into tissue paper and the leg fell off so I got a busy day in the morning -fix the barrow as well. I must admit the dept of Agriculture in Cayman is very good. I know I seem to have a hatred of big government, which is my political ideology speaking - small public service- administrate the private sector, who does the work, few rules but enforce them but I am very impressed with the Dept of Ag. At the feed store the guys must be the hardest workers on the island and cheerful with it and same in the plant area, helpful, polite and very friendly. These people give the Dept of Environment a good run of the money on the friendliest government dept. - sorry side tracked I went to the first of several meeting they are having with local farmers to find how they can help the local farmers so everyone is working together. There is several meetings one for every section so we were poultry, then there is one on goats, pigs, cattle and crops. In the last 5 years the poultry market alone has increased by around 400%. This is great so the local population is getting better access to locally produced food - imported eggs stay fresh up to 45 days and I guess we get close to end of shelf live. While local producers are selling within a week; the the food is fresher and more healthy. It also means money spend on food stays in the local economy and helps to create employment. I guess this is a good time for a sales plug - fresh eggs only CI$ 3.00 per dozen -just email asmallbackyard@gmail - we only produce a dozen a day so no mad orders please- we deliver as well on Grand Cayman - sorry not Scotland or NE England yet :)
