So lets not assert a false equivalency in order to make yourself and fellow conservatives FEEL better. Lets examine why a depiction of Christ as a homeless person makes conservatives uncomfortable. Could it be that Evangelicals and conservatives in general have been aggressively asserting the bible in the public sphere for decades including using the bible as justification for eliminating food stamps and welfare checks to single mothers? They scoff at Obama for being a community organizer when they claim to worship the worlds most famous community organizer. They conveniently choose to only focus on parts of the bible that allow them to treat people they dont like badly and at the same time ignore passages from the bible that require them not to be economically self-interested and to help the poor. Christian radio networks now have financial advice shows that tell Christians that Jesus wants them to be rich! Religious conservatives in America have turned Jesus into a Golden Calf of Capitalism.
