Brave little Leyla who was came into the isolation unit after being found abandoned, is struggling rather. She is receiving vet support and treatment and is being closely monitored. The initial bloat that she carried has now left her thankfully, this shows the true state of her frame. She has been washed today to start to remove the lice and mites. Even though she found this exhausting, it was better to do it, rather than leave the parasites to continue to drain her. Leyla is severely anaemic and receiving supplements to compensate and correct this. Her temperature, pulse and respiration are erratic and the poor little lady is generally absolutely shattered and drained of all reserves of energy. In this state she started to deteriorate considerably and started to become disassociated with her environment and surroundings. It appears that she has lost a foal recently and so is being very carefully cared for both physically and emotionally. We are all completely supporting this dear little mare. Her sadness and stoic acceptance of suffering is tangible. Her deep brown eyes just gaze with no flicker of anticipation or expectation just acceptance. We shall continue to do what is right by her and assess with more information as it appears. In the meantime can we ask you all to send positive energy and motivational strength and healing to her.
